“When asked, ‘What is more important: Prayer or Reading the Bible?’
I ask, ‘What is more important: breathing in or breathing out?'”
-Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) ___________________________________________
“When we read God’s Word, God is speaking to us —
when we pray, we are speaking to God —
these are the two halves of our communication with God;
which is why I find Charles Spurgeon’s example to be so perfect and so insightful.”
-Lay Monk Preston

“Rud nach cluin cluas cha ghluais cridhe.”
“That which the ear doesn’t hear won’t stir the heart.”
-Old Gaelic Saying
“The holy and inspired Scriptures are
sufficient of themselves for the
preaching of the truth.”
-St. Athanasius (296-373 A.D.) Bishop of Alexandria, Egypt
“For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed?
And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?
And how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent?
As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those that preach the Gospel of Peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
-Romans 10:13-15
“I have more understanding than all my teachers:
For your testimonies are my meditation.”
-Psalm 119:99
God’s Word:
The Rule of our Lay Monastic Order is 100% Bible-based.
It has to be: The Entirety of Holy Scripture is the Rule for All Christians.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”
-2 Timothy 3:16
Right Life / Orthozoe / ὀρθοzων Right Belief / Orthodoxia / ὀρθοδοξία
The First Area of Life we must be concerned with is Right Life (Orthozoe).
Zoe is the Greek word for Spiritual Life, the Eternal Life found only in Christ.
The Greek word for our Physical life is not Zoe, but Bios, from which is derived the word: Biology.
“Right Life is Receiving Christ as Lord and Savior and abiding in Him.”
(John 1:12; 15:4-5; 1 John 2:6)
C.S. Lewis called Zoe:
“The life that is found only in God.”
(See our webpage: How to Receive Christ in the Drop-down Menu beneath the About US Category.)
Right Belief / Orthodoxia / ὀρθοδοξία
The 2nd Area of Life
Meaning: Right Belief or Correct Belief (also: Right Worship or Correct Worship)
Note: “Right Worship” is not something outward, but rather inward.
Our Lord taught us that it is worship “in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23-24).
It is having a heart attitude toward God of reverence and awe,
worshipping and praising Him in gratefulness, thankfulness, love, and humility.

Right Belief is belief in Christ, and in God’s Word. (2 Timothy 3:15-17)
Our Lord said:
“The words that I speak to you; they are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63)
“I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

“I am the Light of the World.
Those that follow Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
-John 8:12
“The Bible does not contain the Word of God,
it is the Word of God.
It is supernatural in origin,
eternal in duration,
inexpressible in value, infinite in scope,
regenerative in power, infallible in authority,
universal in interest, personal in application,
inspired in totality.”
-Smith Wigglesworth (1859-1947) British Pentecostal Evangelist
“One of the brothers
asked one of the hermit
Abbas,
‘If I happen to oversleep
and am late for the
hour of prayer,
I am ashamed that
others
will hear me praying so
late,
and so I become
reluctant
to keep the rule of
prayer.’
The older monk
answered,
‘If you ever oversleep in
the morning,
get up when you
awake,
close the door
and the windows,
and say your
psalms.
For it is written
there:
‘The day is Yours.
The night also is
Yours.’
(Psalm 74:16)
God is glorified
whatever time it is.”
-Sayings of the
Desert Fathers
