“Life as a Celtic Lay Monk: Learning from Celtic Christian Prayer” by S.G. Preston
“The most valuable thing the Psalms do for me is to express the same delight in God which made David dance.”
Half of the Book of Psalms was composed by David, inspired by the Holy Spirit: 73-75 Psalms.
The Psalms are primarily Praise and Prayers (containing many prophecies about Christ).
They were written in poetic form originally as Songs for use in the Daily Worship at the Temple.
The traditional Hebrew title is tehillim (“praises”), although many of the Psalms are tephillot (“prayers”).
“Speaking to yourselves in Psalms and Hymns and Spiritual Songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;” -Ephesians 5:19
“Are any among you afflicted? Let them pray. Is any merry? Let them sing Psalms.” -James 5:13
For years Billy Graham read five Psalms and one chapter of Proverbs each day, in addition to his daily Scripture reading:
“By reading five Psalms and one chapter of Proverbs daily, you will be able to read them through each month.
The Psalms will tell you how you get along with God, and the Proverbs will tell you how to get along with your fellowman…”
-Billy Graham (1918-
2018)
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

DAILY PSALM CHART: PRAY 5 PSALMS A DAY – ALL 150 EACH MONTH (COMMENTARY):
“It is a great joy to pray 5 Psalms every day.
On a particular date each month you pray the same 5 Psalms — it is like meeting 5 old friends once each month: a different 5 every day!
God will specifically speak to you through one or more verses each day, brought to your special attention by the Holy Spirit.
You are joining in praying the same 5 Psalms each day that other Christians throughout the world are also praying on the same day: Millions?…tens of millions?…out of a total 2.5 Billion Christians worldwide.
Know that Christians have done so together in unison for over two thousand years.
If this seems like too much…
Another Option: You can Read (or listen to) One Chapter of the New Testament and Pray One Psalm every day.
The New Testament contains 260 Chapters, so you will read all the way through it every 9 months.
There are 150 Psalms, so you will Pray them all every 5 months.
You will be in God’s Word more than many Christians!
Do you think doing this will this change your life? Yes, I think it will, too!”
-Lay Monk Preston

“The Psalter is the prayer book of Jesus Christ in the truest sense of the word.
He prayed the Psalter and now it has become his prayer for all time…
we understand how the Psalter can be prayer to God and yet God’s own Word, precisely because here we encounter the praying Christ…
because those who pray the psalms are joining in with the prayer of Jesus Christ, their prayer reaches the ears of God.”

“The more deeply we grow into the psalms and the more often we pray them as our own, the more simple and rich will our prayer become.”

“Whenever the Psalter is abandoned, an incomparable treasure is lost to the Christian church. With its recovery will come unexpected power.”
-Dietrich Bonhoeffer (From: Psalms: The Prayer Book of the Bible)
“When you sit down to eat, pray. When You eat bread, do so thanking Him for being so generous to you.
…When you dress, thank Him for His kindness in providing you with clothes.
When you look at the sky and the beauty of the stars, throw yourself at God’s feet and adore Him who in His wisdom has arranged things in this way.
Similarly, when the sun goes down and when it rises, when you are asleep or awake, give thanks to God,
who created and arranged all things for your benefit, to have you know, love and praise your Creator.”

“Troubles are usually the brooms and shovels that smooth the road to a good man’s fortune;
and many a man curses the rain that falls upon his head, and knows not that it brings abundance to drive away hunger.”

“As we were baptized, so we profess our belief. As we profess our belief, so also we offer praise.
As then baptism has been given us by the Savior, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
so, in accordance with our baptism, we make the confession of the creed…”

“A psalm implies serenity of soul; it is the author of peace, which calms bewildering and seething thoughts. For, it softens the wrath of the soul, and what is unbridled it chastens.”
