(The Jordan River, Israel) "Jesus arrived from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan River. Rising up out of the water, He saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him. And there was heard a voice from heaven, saying, 'You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.' And immediately the Spirit led Him into the desert wilderness." -Mark 1:9-12

It was so interesting to learn of your community and the details of your devotion to the Lord…  We find ourselves thrust into the middle of daily battle in the media worlds of Christian communication which only causes us to pause to thank God from time to time for those he has raised up to keep the incense of prayer stoked and burning before his presence continually…  So as and when our little ministries should ever come to your mind we would be so grateful if you would intercede before the Lord on our behalf…  Again, we rejoice to know you are there.  Your brother in Christ,  -Ken Curtis  (Founder: Gateway Films/Vision Video; Christian History Institute)

Dear Lay Monk Preston & Lay Monk Linda,  Greetings in the name of our Risen Lord!  We are writing you on behalf of The Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches.

We have kept up with you and the ministry over the years and have been greatly blessed by your love for Christ and the Church.  We are especially blessed by the way you are encouraging people to know the Lord and grow in his Grace and Love.  We should have written a long time ago to tell you we appreciate you including the CEEC in your History of Protestant Monasticism.  We have many people who have continued to pursue an evangelical monastic life.

This week beginning October 21st, 2009 the CEEC Bishops are meeting in Synod and we thought it would be nice if we could read a letter of greeting and prayer to the Synod, from the PrayerFoundation.™ This would also give us a nice way of exposing more people to your website.  Other fellow “monastics” have been kind to do so; we have included one example from Ray Simpson from Lindisfarne.  In Christ,  -The Bishops of the CEEC

Our church library has received your donation to us of The Fanny Crosby Story (DVD).  We hold the CVLI (Christian Video Licensing International) license, but I do not find Panmedia Entertainment Corp. listed as a participating publisher.  The very nature of our library, of course, is to lend our items to our church members to inspire and inform them and to help them in their walk with Christ.  How could we obtain permission to add this DVD to our collection?  Beth M. (Temple Baptist Church Library, Newport News, Virginia)

I am a missionary with Youth With A Mission in Scotland.  I am from Oregon and completed a six month Discipleship Training School at the Seamill location in Scotland in January.  I returned in January to staff another DTS.  At the moment I am back in Oregon and waiting to return to lead a Discipleship training school.  I was so blessed to find your website…it would be lovely to be able to come to such a thin place here in the Oregon / Washington area.
Bless you,

Thanks very much.  May the Lord bless the work you may do for His precious name.  In 1990 I read some books about the life of George Müller during my time at the Mission School of Medicine in London.  Biographies, written by Miller and Steer.  As Grace Publishing House, we would like to publish a book about George Müller in the Dutch language.  No book about him is available (in Dutch) at the moment.  Please could you advise me?  I look forward to your news.  Kind regards,  Jan (Grace Publishing House, The Netherlands)

Thank you so much for answering my questions.  Explaining the reference of “Oblates” was quite important to us, as this would be of interest for sure, even in our Orthodox faith.  Well, you have an exciting ministry, and offer a wonderful service for people such as myself who may never be able to be a monk in the sense that the world may think.  “Monks at heart.”  Was thinking if we (myself and my husband Danny) become Lay Monks in the PrayerFoundation ™ …am very excited about this….women have always played important parts in Jesus’ ministry and founding: Mary Magdalene, Jesus’ mother, Salome, Mary the mother of Cleopas, and on and on and on.  …it is true that your lifestyle resembles much of the Orthodox faith, and the (Nicene) Creed is in keeping with our beliefs (of course).  In Christ,  -Carol Ann (New York State)

I have been an Ordained Minister since 1974.  I love interdenominational work.  My first two years after being born again I spent handing out tracts on Hollywood Blvd. and starting Christian Coffee Houses.  In the 70’s I got to work with Brother Andrew…and help Richard Wurmbrand during the Munich Olympics Outreach with the YWAM (Youth With A Missionteam.  -Michael M.

What Other Christians Say About Us...

I agree whole heartily with your Statement of Faithas does my future wife.  I also can and will do the Daily Hours of Prayer.  I was born again April 22nd 2001 (I am Quaker) and my fiancé (messianic) was in August/September of 2007.  I went through Seminary to become a Pastor, and I try to remain active in the mission fields.

I have long looked at and read over your site, and with serious prayer I have decided to seek joining you.  Feeling serious conviction about the distracted and luxurious life style in the west even among the poor like myself.  Enthralled about the ability to join without having to remain single, I have decided to contact you.  Your brother in Christ,  Gary C. (Quaker)

I write to express appreciation for your website.  Letha and I, in retirement, co-pastor an Anabaptist house church, south of Richmond, Virginia.  We are associated with the Church of the Brethren, produced by the confluence of Anabaptism and German Pietism in the early 1700’s.

Recovery of spiritual communion with the Lord through Scripture, sacrament, and contemplative prayer are major investments for me now, after years of pastoring that involved too much administration, and pampering of cranky Christians.  I still have to do that stuff, but they are down on my list of priorities.

And I thank God for the core group in the congregation we now serve, who are really supportive prayer pilgrims.  Again, with appreciation for your work, I am Yours in Christ,  Jim M. (Pastor, Church of the Brethren, Virginia)

…I am actually writing to ask if you could possibly remove my story from your website.  The reason I am making this request is because I am under contract and printed publications must be cleared before they are released.  This publication (that you have posted on your website), and some others that have been printed…have not gone through proper channels.

And the permission to print must be given before the actual speaking engagement.  If you have any questions please feel free to call me.  Thank you so much.  I look forward to talking with you in the future.  -Ron De Shay (Producer, American IdolLos Angeles, California)

Henry Martyn arrived in India in April 1806, where he preached and translated the whole of the New Testament into Urdu, Persian, and Judaeo-Persic.

He also translated the Psalms into Persian and the Book of Common Prayer into Urdu.  From India, he set out for Persia (modern-day Iran).

Martyn was seized with fever, and though the plague was raging at Tokat, he was forced to stop there, unable to continue.

He went home to be with the Lord on October 16th, 1812.

A few years ago, I dialogued with you via email, and it…planted a seed I didn’t expect.  The vision God had given me (I have been an Artist-Missionary for 25 years now), suddenly began to take the shape of a Monastery for the arts, after dialoguing with you and discovering the PrayerFoundation™ via the internet.

Now, four years after the initial vision, I am finally free to begin talking about it.  Amazingly, our Board of Directors has approved of the idea!  I am also free to discuss it with people, and yes, they really get startled when I say we are going to start a monastery, but after I explain it, it makes sense to them.  Much love,  (Mrs.) Robin M. What Other Christians Say About Us...

I am a Christian, and want to grow in prayer and intimacy with the Lord.  I currently am serving in my local church Body as the leader of our prayer ministry.  I am intrigued by your website, and have spent quite awhile reading your pages.

I believe your disciplines could help me mature in Christ, and am considering applying to join the monastic order.  Most of the content on your site really glorifies God, and is completely Biblical, and I was blessed to read it.  I think it is great that you leave the non-essentials out of requirements for your membership…

Your website is literally one of the most uplifting, godly websites I have ever read, even among the more heavily publicized and heavily funded ones.  Grace and peace in our Lord Jesus Christ,  -Shelley (Indianapolis, Indiana)
